BH Live Queens Park

REVIEW: BH Live Active Queen’s Park

Looking to tone up, learn a new activity or catch up with a friend whilst working out? BH Live Active’s Queen’s Park branch has everything you need to work on those fitness goals you made at the start of the year! We headed along to try out the facilities and were really impressed.

The gym, which is handily located near to Charminster, just off of the A338, just minutes from both Boscombe and Bournemouth, has plenty of parking on site, which is really handy, especially if you only have time for a quick workout. No time wasted searching for a space on the road required. Make sure you remember to enter your registration at the stand in the entrance though, to avoid getting a ticket.

When it comes to your workout, you have so many options available. There’s not just one gym, there are three to choose from, set out over three floors. You don’t have to choose, you could visit each one, as we did. There are plenty of cardio and resistance training machines - we had a run through the Tuscan countryside on the treadmills! You can also choose from a vast selection of weights including free weights and racks for strength training.

The upper floor of the spacious venue has a high energy studio where you can enjoy activities such as Body Pump and Zumba Gold or really push yourself with a Les Mills Grit Strength class! We were very tempted by the Body Jam class, which looked like a lot of fun!

The Group Cycle studio is fitted out with plenty of spin bikes, which have been upgraded recently. We managed to fit in a Les Mills Sprint class and were sweating by the end of the thirty minute session - it’s definitely not for the faint hearted and is a great way to start the day (they have classes at 6.25am throughout the week).

Back downstairs on the ground floor is a Mind & Body studio, which hosts classes such as yoga and pilates, for a slower paced activity. We went along to a Pilates class and really enjoyed it - brilliant for core strength and suitable for those looking for a gentle alternative to the high energy activities on offer.

We finished up our visit with a trip to the cafe, which is well stocked with plenty of pre or post workout snacks, as well as a selection of hot and cold drinks, as well as some hot snacks on offer too. There’s even a few alcoholic beverages available, if you fancy a good post workout catch up with a friend or partner.

We really enjoyed our visit to BH Live Active’s Queen’s Park branch. Your membership also allows you access to the other local branches, which is great if you like to mix things up. You can also opt to pay as you go, if you’d prefer (gym workouts don’t need to be booked in advance for members, but you will need to if paying as you go). The class schedule is varied and fun, you can book classes easily using the app on your smartphone, and there’s even a waitlist for popular activities that get booked up fast.

We especially loved the fact that there were three gyms within the centre, meaning plenty of space, and a varied workout. Most importantly, for the membership price, you can enjoy plenty of activities and workout at your pace and to fit your schedule (the gym is open until 10pm during the week, 9pm on Fridays and until 5pm on Saturday and Sunday).
