Local Discretionary Grant funding

We received over 780 applications for our Discretionary Grant scheme aimed at supporting small businesses. The application window is now closed and we are in the process of assessing those applications. We will endeavour to pay eligible applications as quickly as possible once this assessment period has been completed.

We've issued over £75m in grant support to businesses

To date, we have paid nearly £75.7m in grant support to 5932 local businesses eligible for either the Small Business Grant or Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grants.

This represents around 87% of the total number of businesses known to be eligible from our records. The application process for these Grant Support Schemes remains open.

Retail shops and businesses reopened this week

Since Monday 15 June, all retailers - from shops selling clothes, shoes, toys, furniture, books and electronics; plus tailors, auction houses, photography studios and indoor markets - have been able to reopen provided they follow government guidelines.

Updated guidance has been published detailing the measures retailers should take to meet the necessary social distancing and hygiene standards.

Dorset Engineering and Manufacturing Cluster event

This week, the BCP Council Economic Development team delivered an online seminar with our partners, the Dorset Growth Hub for the Engineering and Manufacturing sector. We had over 70 delegates sign up and the feedback has been extremely positive.

The event provided an update on our support for businesses, the Dorset Growth Hub's support for business and also featured a local business talking about their experiences with Covid-19. The event has been recorded and can be found here.

Bournemouth food industry support events

Do you have a Dorset based food business restaurant, café or takeaway?

If so, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) wants to help you. Their free online events are open to all businesses in this sector, with special guests including Bournemouth based curry queen Sarah Ali Choudhury and other experts answering your questions about securing post-lockdown success.

The Open Innovation - Space initiative

Airbus has announced the creation of an exciting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) engagement programme to encourage tech companies to work with them on a major military space programme.
