Amazon Warehouse Poole

Massive Amazon warehouse to open in Poole before Christmas

Online retail giant, Amazon, is set to move warehouse operations to a site in Poole in November – just in time to fulfil its Christmas deliveries.

The existing depot near Bournemouth Airport in Christchurch will close but all staff will retain their jobs and move to the new building near Sterte Avenue West in Poole, located between the A350 and the railway line. In fact, the company is creating new jobs in the area and is currently advertising for warehouse assistants and warehouse operatives.

The giant building, constructed over the last few months, covers nearly 11 acres and measures 10,331m2. Comprising of warehouse and office space, the building will be one of the largest in Poole.

An Amazon spokesperson said: “We regularly review our network to ensure we are delivering for our customers and are relocating our Bournemouth delivery station to a new site in Poole. There will be no changes to the service we provide to our customers in this area and all employees will be relocated and continue with their roles at the new delivery station.”
Permission for the warehouse was awarded by BCP Council subject to Amazon paying £349,000 to compensate for loss of habitat on the land, to be spent on one or more sites within the Poole Harbour catchment area.

Poole can only benefit from having such a massive company here, just take a look at some of Amazon’s impressive stats:
•    Amazon’s revenue for the twelve months ending June 30, 2022 was $485.902 billion
•    Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, is the world’s richest man, with a net worth of $182 billion
•    Amazon is the fifth largest company in the world – Apple is the largest
•    There are over 350 million products available on Amazon
•    Amazon has 1.5 million employees
•    6000 dogs ‘work’ at Amazon HQ in Seattle
•    Jeff Bezos started the company in 1995 selling books from his garage
•    You can buy most things on Amazon – but you can’t buy homes, cars, cigarettes or live animals
•    Amazon owns 41 subsidiaries and brands, including IMDb, Zappos.com, Goodreads, Audible and Whole Foods
•    Amazon is only the second business in history to make $1 trillion in market capitalization.
