REVIEW: Adult Swimming Classes at Individuality Swimming & Fitness

Are you on the hunt for some adult swimming classes or lessons in Poole? I won't bore you with my medical condition, but I've recently been advised to stop running and to swim more.

I'm an okay swimmer and have done a few triathlons, but if I'm going to be spending more time swimming, I want to perfect my stroke and to make sure I'm swimming efficiently to get the most out of it.

My kids go to Individuality's swimming lessons, but I'm unable to commit to regular classes and just wanted a one-off lesson to brush up on my technique so I contacted Individuality to see if they were able to help me.

I had been prepared to pay for a private 121 lesson and could only fit in a Saturday afternoon so would have gone with any pool that fit time and location wise. Individuality's advice was so generous and selfless; they clearly cared more about giving me the right solution than revenue for them.

They advised that the pool where I had been looking would have been too small and that I would be better off in a smaller group fitness class as not only a much cheaper option than 1-2-1, but it was at Talbot Heath School with a bigger pool and with time for 1-2-1 coaching too. It was an absolute bargain at £14.30 and so effective!

The parking was really easy as the pool and changing area is super impressive. I must admit I was a little nervous as didn't know what to expect but Matthew welcomed me and talked me through how the session would work. Although it was technically a swimming fitness class and he had planned out a particular session, he understood my goals and tweaked accordingly. Little did I know what was in store!

I began with 6 lengths of the 25 metre pool where Matthew watched my technique and then he gave me some tips to be more efficient on scooping my hands more, I struggled to keep my form together, so he gave me some paddles to get used to the feeling which helped massively - but then came the sting! He gave me a float to put between my legs so I had to focus on purely swimming with my arms/hands with the paddle. Oh my goodness, I did at least 400 metres like this, and it was a tough workout!

I was exhausted but then when I returned to swimming lengths without the float and paddle the new technique came more naturally without having to think too much about it.

Attention then turned to my legs and to quickly and consistently kick, having done a few triathlons I'm used to 'saving' my legs for the bike and run so had gotten lazy with the kicking and although it felt tiring it has most certainly improved my speed and efficiency.

I gained so much from this hour! If you're an adult looking to improve your swimming technique or even to learn to swim, the team at Individuality will really look after you. Right from listening and giving you the best advice and finding the right fit (they have lessons every day at pools throughout the county so there's something for everyone), right through to the coaching, staff and facilities.

I had such an effective hour long lesson; not only have I gained some really valuable tips to keep practicing on my own, but I had a great workout too - my Garmin told me it had been my longest swim yet - 2125 metres no less! So I've had a fantastic training session to boot!

Thank you to all the team at Individuality Swimming, this is just the solution I was after!
